Winneshiek County Supervisors have unanimously given their final approval to a written contract spelling out their agreement with the City of Decorah and the Decorah Volunteer Fire Department to operate a firefighter training facility on county-owned land.
In addition to serving members of the Decorah Fire Department, the firefighter training facility on Old Stage Road will also serve firefighters from the county's other fire departments, as well as fire departments outside Winneshiek County which have mutual aid contracts with the Decorah Fire Department.
Decorah Fire Chief Mike Ashbacher says the final step in setting up the agreement is to get City of Decorah officials to sign off on the agreement, which they have indicated they would do. Once that is done, dirt moving will start at the facility.
