Urbandale School District Associate Superintendent Mark Lane, who will become Decorah's School Superintendent July 1st, has been named Iowa's 2019 Central Office Administrator of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa, the statewide organization representing school district officials.

SAI executive director Roark Horn said, "Mark not only provides outstanding leadership in his district, but also serves others throughout the state. His expertise in maximizing systems has helped many examine their decision-making processes and rethink them in positive ways. His 'we are all in this together' approach is exactly what we need in education."

Lane began his career as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher. His education includes a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Morningside College, master's degrees in counseling and educational leadership from Drake University and a superintendent's certification from the University of Northern Iowa.  He's currently pursuing his doctorate of education at Drake.

He was nominated by his peers, selected for the award by a committee of Iowa central office administrators and will be honored at a governor's awards ceremony in May and at the association's annual conference in July.
