The Sustainability Task Force of the City of Decorah wants to get input from city employees about steps city government can take to become more environmentally sustainable. So it is planning to hold a meal and host interested employees. The city's Sustainability Task Force is requesting authority to spend up to $250 on meal costs for the event.
The proposal is drawing criticism from one Decorah City council member, however. Randy Schissel says he doesn't think the city government should be buying meals for its employees. Other city council members defended the request, saying the city employees would be giving up their lunch breaks to attend the program.
Monday night Schissel was the lone holdout as the city council authorized the spending on a 5-1 vote.
