Prairie burn will be held in the near future

Prescribed prairie burns at the Decorah City Prairie will take place any day between now and May 10th, according to the Decorah Parks & Recreation Department.

Prescribed burns are used to discourage the growth of weeds and woody vegetation while promoting the growth of desired native vegetation in prairie restoration sites. Weather conditions are the major determination as to when the burns will take place.
