Emerald Ash Borer continues to kill ash trees in the City of Decorah, so the Decorah Tree Board is again offering free trees to city residents to plant in the boulevard in front of their homes.
Six species of trees will be offered: Thornless Honey Locust, Littleleaf
Linden and Irownwood (as known as "Hop Hornbean") are all tall to
intermediate-sized trees which can be planted where there are no overhead wires; and Japanese Tree Lilac, Flowering Crabapple and Bluebeech ("Hornbeam"), which are shorter-growing trees.
Trees are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a
tree, e-mail the Tree Board at treeboard@decorahia.org or write to City of
Decorah, Attn: Tree Board, 400 Claiborne Drive, Decorah, IA 52101. Be sure to include your address and indicate your first and second choice of tree species.
Trees will be available for pickup at the parking lot at the Extension
Office at 325 Washington Street in Decorah from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 26th, which is Arbor Day.
