Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz says Decorah's weather in March was a bit of an outlier--it was the first month in the last 12 in which precipitation was lower than average.
Total precipitation for March was 1.29 inches, which was 0.58 inches less than the average amount of 1.87 inches. There were just four days with measurable precipitation and just an inch and a half of snowfall, which was 6.3 inches less than the average of 7.8 inches.
March temperatures were typical of the recent trend, however. The average temperature of 29.8 degrees was 2.8 degrees cooler than average, which made March the 5th out of the last six months with cooler-than-normal temperatures. Compared with March 2019, 84 Marches were warmer and 42 Marches were cooler.
