April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

Both Winneshiek County and the City of Decorah are proclaiming April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
     
Sexual violence affects hundreds of thousands of Americans each year.  Although the number of assaults has fallen by more than half since 1993, every 92 seconds an American is sexually assaulted and every 9 minutes, that victim is a child.  The crime is still mostly hidden--only 5 out of every 1,000 rapists will end up in prison.
