Decorah 7th grader wins the Iowa Geography Bee

Decorah Middle School 7th grader Simon Kutz has won the State Geography Bee.

Simon was one of 100 fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders from across Iowa who qualified for the state Geography Bee at UNI in Cedar Falls.  During preliminary competition, all but 10 students were eliminated through a series of eight questions. The top ten--including Simon--went on to the final round where Kutz came out victorious.

In addition to a cash prize, he also won the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., where he will compete at the national level May 19th though May 24th.
