(Joel, a new Decorah resident, last week e-mailed The Answer Person: "What are the best solutions that Decorah residents have found to cope with noise from the Speedway on race nights? Are there good technological solutions, such as noise-canceling audio listening headphones, safety ear muffs or plugs, or white noise generators?" At that time, readers were asked for their suggestions. Here are their responses):
Kevin e-mails: "Hold on Joel, in the not too distant future they will all be hybrid or electric!"
Ted e-mails: "We usually go out of town for the evening of races. This works for us. We also remember the number of times the train honked for a street crossing, while it went through town."
Beth e-mails: "If you are bothered by the noise, how about going to a movie. Be social and go visit friends or relatives out of "noise" reach. Or another suggestion would be to go to a race – you might enjoy it and be come a fan."
Finally, Bruce e-mails, "I suggest that mufflers be required." However, The Answer Person notes that mufflers ARE required. Furthermore, the racetrack website says: "All cars are subject to inspection by track officials before, during, and after the racing program. Any car found to have been illegal after a race would forfeit any points/or prize money made in that race."
Welcome to Decorah, Joel! Hope this feedback helps!
