Decorah Police have issued two tickets to the driver of a car which struck the side of the Vesterheim Museum Bruening Visitor Center earlier this month.
86-year-old Donald Maxfield has been cited for Driving While Suspended and for Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle. Police say Maxfield was driving south on Mechanic Street when he attempted to turn onto Day Spring Lane, saw an oncoming vehicle, attempted to avoid it but overcorrected, causing his car to jump the curb and eventually strike the building.
The accident caused a total of $4,800 in damages. A passenger in the car, 83-year-old Dana Maxfield of Decorah, complained of possible injuries, but did not require an ambulance.
