Mentoring bowl-a-thon raises over $8,000

Helping Services for Youth & Families says their Bowl-A-Thon raised over $8,000 in support of mentoring programs.

94 bowlers and sponsors helped raise $8,089 for the mentoring programs in Allamakee, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties.

Mentoring Coordinator Kathy Schwartzhoff said, "Bowlers really got into the theme, wearing cowboy hats, vests, big belt buckles, and someone even brought a spur."

Youth Mentoring in Allamakee, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties provides an adult mentor who spends a minimum of four hours a month with a youth, ages 5 to 16.  Currently 40 youth are enjoying time with a mentor and 28 youth are waiting for a mentor.
