Spillville man gets his archeological research published

Posted: Tue, Mar 19, 2019 9:09 AM

Archaeological research by Spillville resident Russell Baldner has been published by the Journal of the Iowa Archeological Society.

Baldner's article, entitled "A Rock Art Miscellany," focuses on the Late Prehistoric to Early Historic Native American petroglyphs (rock carvings) and pictographs (rock paintings) of Northeast Iowa. The Native American rock art legacy of northeast Iowa is a rare, fragile, and intriguing facet of Iowa's indigenous heritage and one of the state's most extraordinary cultural expressions.

The three-part series is based on extensive field and documentary research conducted by Baldner. Copies of the Journal are available for reading at Preus Library, Luther College or for purchase from the Iowa Archeological Society or from Baldner.
