It's that time of year again...warmer weather equals potholes

This pothole is in the 500 block of East Main Street

The city of Decorah has been receiving phone calls on the many potholes that are showing up in local streets. City engineer Jeremy Bril says to call the Street Department at 382-2157 if you notice a particularly bad pothole that needs filling.

Bril said, "We started filling the potholes as soon as we noticed them starting to pop up. The challenge we are facing is that the recent cold and wet weather makes it difficult for the repair mixes we use to stay in place. Also, the significant amount of accumulated snow and ice along the roads has forced water away from the curb and out into the drive lanes. So, we often have to fix the same potholes more than once, particularly those located on heavily traveled roads."

Roads that get the most traffic are prioritized, but the city knows there are bad ones on less traveled roads too. Bril added, "We appreciate everyone's patience as we work to get them all filled."
