Bids on a Winneshiek County Jail security upgrade have come in at just a little over $577,000.
That's $116,857 less than the bids which were opened on the project in December, but still $277,000 more than originally predicted by the engineering consulting firm.
This time the project was split into two contracts, one for the general remodeling and a second for the cameras and other electrical work. David Finholt Construction of Decorah was the apparent low bidder on general contracting with their bid of $142,688. See Electric of Decorah submitted a bid for electrical work totaling $434,653.
The project will now be split over two county budgets. County supervisors next Monday will discuss the exact financing for the project.
