Decorah Parent Teacher Organization volunteers have begun planning Spell-a-Thon 2019 in an effort to raise money for the Decorah Schools.
Students in grades K-6 have started to collect pledges from family, friends and neighbors. Spelling tests will be given to all students the week of April 1st.
All students in grades K-6 who return their completed pledge envelope will have their name entered into a drawing at their school for a gift certificate from a local merchant. The classroom that collects the most pledges at each school will be awarded a pizza party. The student receiving the most pledges will receive a $100 bill from Decorah Bank and Trust.
The event, held every other year, serves as the PTO's largest fundraiser, raising approximately $30,000. Programs and projects benefiting from past Spell-A-Thon proceeds include the Decorah Schools' library collections, the West Side/Community Natural Playground, Kid Striders, college scholarships and many teacher requests, programs and projects at each school.
