In the latest phone scam, callers pretend to be from the Sheriff's Office

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office is warning area residents about an ongoing telephone scam. The phone number that has shown up on caller ID is the Sheriff's Office phone number.
 
Scammers are claiming to be law enforcement and officers and demand numbers off of gift cards.  The scammers threaten that if you don't give them the information they want they will issue an arrest warrant.
 
The Sheriff's Office says, "This is a SCAM!  Please remember to never give out any personal information or send any money to these scammers!"
