Decorah man has been charged with assault on a police officer

A Decorah man now faces a charge of assault on a police officer after Decorah Police were called to the 200 block of North Mill Street Sunday night.

When officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m., they found 34-year-old Brent Fullhart of Decorah, who had a warrant for his arrest.  Fullhart was arrested and taken to the Winneshiek County Jail.  Police say while at the jail Fullhart shoved a police officer, which led to an attempt by officers to control Fullhart.  In the process, Decorah Police officer David Smutzler was injured and was taken for medical care, then released.

Fullhart was then charged with Assault on a Police Office.
