Crews from the Winneshiek County Road Department on Tuesday are continuing to work as fast as they can to open up all county roads. However, county officials say the work is very slow going due to drifting snow, a large amount of snow on roads and multiple equipment breakdowns as well.
The latest news release from the county says, "Please be patient and give our crews time to clear the roads. Feel free to contact our office with questions at 563-382-2951."
The Road Department also is asking the public for help when it encounters plows on county roads. The department is asking motorists to please give the plows lots of room and not to follow closely.
Says a news release from the department, "Our plows are having to back up frequently and cars are right behind them or in blind spots."
The department is also asking motorists to NOT PASS a plow vehicle, explaining that the plows can shift left at any point because of snow drifts--and the plow driver cannot stop that from happening.
