Letter to the Editor: County resident is concerned about impact of city/county police merger on county budget

"As a citizen of Ossian in Winneshiek County, I would like to weigh in on one issue on the matter of the possibility of the City of Decorah merging their Police Department with the Sheriff's Office. 

Please keep in mind that any savings in cost would be negligible.  It would only be moving the cost from the city budget to the county budget.  The cost would remain basically the same. 

My one and only concern would be that the cost remain where it belongs, with the City of Decorah and not be prorated out to the rest of the county.  In fact, that is the only way the City of Decorah could save a truly substantial amount of money."
