Trial involving hospital threats is moving forward

Posted: Tue, Feb 19, 2019 9:51 AM

An Allamakee County resident accused of making threatening phone calls to Winneshiek Medical Center in November has now dropped his request for a jury trial which was to have started Wednesday.

58-year-old William Harrison Junior is charged with Felony Threat of Terrorism and two counts of Aggravated Misdemeanor Harassment.

District Court Judge John Bauercamper has accepted a motion by Harrison's attorney to cancel the jury trial scheduled for Wednesday.  Instead, Harrison will appear before Judge Bauercamper at 9:00 a.m. April 2nd "for further proceedings."

The phone calls received by Winneshiek Medical Center included multiple acts of violence directed to the Winneshiek Medical Center and staff, according to police. The Decorah Police Department and Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office began a joint investigation with the assistance of the Winneshiek County Attorney's Office. That led to a search warrant being served on Harrison at his home in rural Allamakee County. Harrison was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail.
