Potential Presidential candidate visits Decorah

Decorah has been visited in the past by well-known political figures such as Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, George Bush and Barack Obama. Of course, that's because the state of Iowa is the center of the process of electing a U.S. President.
That same process attracts lesser-known political figures who take advantage of the low cost of campaigning in Iowa and the accessibility of Iowa voters. That helps explain Sunday's visit to Decorah by Sepand Salehian, an Iranian-American physician from the Los Angeles area who's considering a run for the highest office in the land.
After meeting with First District Democrats in Calmar on Saturday, Salehian was visiting with voters at Java John's in Decorah Sunday afternoon. His campaign literature says he would take "a thoughtful and philosophical approach to the complex, multidisciplinary aspects of modern policy." His background proves he could be up to the task--after attending high school in Los Angeles, he went to school at UCLA, then to the University of Michigan for a PhD, followed by working in Texas and in Los Angeles.
Salehian tells decorahnews.com he hasn't decided yet whether he will run for president or campaign for office in California instead. But his discussions with Decorah voters on Sunday at the coffee shop will give him an idea of the demands of a political campaign, no matter which office he decides to pursue.
