Monday's and Tuesday's storm dumped up to 20 inches of snow in the Upper Midwest

This week's major winter storm has left the Midwest and all that remains is the shoveling.

But while Decorah is digging out of a snowstorm which officially dumped 8 inches of snow in town and 10 inches north of town, be glad you're not living in Western Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service La Crosse Office has just posted a summary of snowstorm totals at https://www.weather.gov/arx/feb1219.  It's clear from those figures that La Crosse County, Monroe County and counties to the north got even more snow than Decorah did.

The La Crosse Airport reported 11 inches of snow, while the National Weather Service Office reported just over 10 inches of snow.  To the east, Sparta reported 14.5 inches and Tomah reported just over 17.5 inches.  Neither one of those towns had the highest snowfall total, however.  That honor (?) went to Independence, which is 50 miles north of La Crosse in Trempeleau County.  Residents there are probably still digging out from a storm total of 20 inches of snow.
