Winneshiek County would spend $27,146,370 to operate from July 1st of 2019 through June 30th of 2020, under a tentative budget created by the Winneshiek County Board.
A public hearing on the budget will be held Monday, March 11th at noon at the Courthouse Annex.
As always, the highest budget figure in the county budget will be for roads--just over $8 million. Capital projects totaling $3.8 million and public safety and legal services totaling $3.74 million are two other major expenses.
County board members estimate the county will bring in $10 million in property tax receipts and $15.6 million from other sources, making total revenues $25,664,717.
That will create a deficit of --$1,481,653. But supervisors plan to use part of the county's $8.3 million fund balance to pay the deficit without raising property tax rates. The rate for county residents in urban areas will be $6.26 per $1,000 of assessed valuation and will be $8.21 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in rural areas--exactly the same numbers as used this year.
