The former Quillins building in Centrum Plaza could be getting new life.

Winneshiek County Development Director Stephanie Fromm and City Manager Chad Bird have been working with a developer who is in the process of purchasing the former Quillin's building.  A "well-known grocery chain" is strongly considering the Decorah area for their next store, one which "is often requested by citizens in the Decorah area."

If the development goes through, the retailer would bring approximately 20 full-time and 50 part-time jobs to the area.  The project would include substantial improvements to the existing building.

City Manager Chad Bird stated, "This is an exciting opportunity to see redevelopment being considered so quickly after the previous tenant vacated the space. Sometimes, these projects take much longer to mature."

WCDI Director Stephanie Fromm said, "This could be a real win for the Decorah area. I am excited to see how things progress as we further explore this development opportunity. This would be a significant improvement and addition to the overall retail center."
