An upgrade of Winneshiek Medical Center's MRI machine will begin Friday, when crews remove the existing machine.
MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Since the installation of the first MRI at WMC in 2007, nearly 8,000 MRI exams have been performed at the medical center.
When the current machine is removed on Friday, a mobile MRI will take its place during the installation of the new MRI. That mobile MRI will be available starting on Tuesday.
Winneshiek Medical Center's MRI last year was awarded a three-year term of accreditation from the American College of Radiology.
