Java John's new owners Ross, Kim, and Blake Bosworth

Kim and Ross Bosworth, along with their son Blake, are the new owners of Java John's and the Water Street Flat Airbnb rental.

The Bosworths are longtime Decorah residents and excited for their new adventure. Ross worked at the Iowa DNR as a wildlife technician and loves hunting, fishing, and gardening. Kim was the dean of arts and sciences at NICC.  She has published her first novel, "Just When I Needed Her Most," and is working on her second novel. Blake is a DHS graduate with his undergraduate degree and masters degree in business administration and finance.

The Bosworths ran a gift shop for two years in Florida, which gave them a taste of owning their own business, so when they saw Java John's was for sale, they jumped at the chance to own it. Ross will do maintenance as needed, and has already helped Kim baking in the kitchen. Kim will be baking in the kitchen and work with event planning. Blake will help manage, do accounting and order inventory for the store. They are working on learning all the positions, so they can fill in as needed.

Java John's will have the same look and feel, but the new owners hope to add some new menu items and open the store to special events such as book clubs and support groups or even painting classes.

The new hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturdays and 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sundays.

Wednesday and Fridays will be fun nights with open mic night, live music, trivia and game nights.

Kim hopes to introduce some new bakery items, including chocolate revel bars, pumpkin pecan bread, and cheesecake. The same delicious baked goods will be offered since biscotti, muffin tops, and bread pudding on Fridays are customer favorites.

Customers can look forward to Belgium waffles, loaded hash browns, chicken salad on croissants, and daily lunch specials like meatloaf and baked potatoes to be added to the menu.

The Bosworths will continue to rent out Water Street Flat located above the restaurant. Last year it was steadily booked from April to Christmas.

"We are thrilled how the community has received us. They have been very supportive and introduced themselves to us," Kim shared.
