NICC's Calmar Child Care Center joins federal food program

Northeast Iowa Community College's Child Development Center in Calmar is now participating in the federal government's Child and Adult Care Food Program.

CACFP provides aid to child and adult care institutions and family or group day care homes for the provision of nutritious foods that contribute to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children, and the health and wellness of older adults and chronically impaired disabled persons.

Through CACFP, more than 4.2 million children and 130,000 adults receive nutritious meals and snacks each day as part of the day care they receive.

Institutions who participate in CACFP may provide meals at a cost of $1 for breakfast, $1.50 for lunch, and $.50 for a snack to enrolled children/adults at the college's Child Development Center.

Meals are provided without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Child care participants who are members of FIP or food assistance households or who are Head Start participants are automatically eligible to receive free meals. Adult care participants who are members of food assistance households or who are SSI or Medicaid participants are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits.
