He has concluded--no surprise here--that it was cold and snowy in Decorah in January.
Specifically, temperatures averaged 15.8 degrees in Decorah in January, which was lower by the average of all Januarys for which records have been kept by 0.3 degrees, This was largely due to the end of the month, when temperatures on January 31st sank to 37 below, tying the record set in 1996. January 31st also set a record for the lowest maximum temperature of 6 degrees below zero.
Yes, there was snow in January in Decorah, as well--16.6 inches of snow, which was more than 7.5 inches more than average. That put this January 14th on the list of the last 126 years in Decorah for snowfall totals.
