Luther College music education students are gearing up for the spring session of Luther College Community Music School, which is open to anyone in the Decorah area.
The program offers group classes, private lessons and SoDa (Song and Dance) Club, a community youth choir program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Group classes will be offered Wednesday mornings during teacher in-service time. SoDa Club is held Monday evenings. Registration is available online at https://lccms.luther.edu/.
Group classes are from 8:00 a.m. until 8:50 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Decorah Lutheran Church and are designed for students in grades 3-8. Classes will incorporate singing, moving, ukulele, drumming, and more. Each class will be led by two Luther student teachers. Tuition is $30 per six-week session. Group classes are free to members of the Decorah Lutheran Church. Spring sessions are from February 20th to April 3rd (with no class on March 27th) and from April 10th to May 15th.
Students of all ages enrolling in private lessons (on all band and orchestral instruments, piano, guitar, drum set and ukulele) will have 12, 30-minute weekly lessons with LCCMS teachers, scheduled for Monday evenings, Wednesday mornings or Saturday mornings, with other times available upon request. A LCCMS student recital will be held at the end of the semester for students taking private lessons, on Luther's campus. Tuition is $150, which includes the lessons, recital participation and an accompanist for the student recital. Private voice lessons are not offered; young vocalists are encouraged to participate in SoDa Club.
