Eastern Iowa U.S. Representative Abby Finkenauer has joined 20 other members of Congress in introducing legislation to outlaw future government shutdowns.
The "Shutdown to End all Shutdowns Act" would keep the government open and functioning if Congress and the President fail to enact appropriations legislation.
If Congress fails to pass a full year appropriations bill by the end of the fiscal year, the SEAS Act automatically triggers a 30-day continuing resolution.
"Shutdowns are unacceptable, they are dangerous, and they are irresponsible…We are here to put chaos and dysfunction aside," said Finkenauer.
