The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says it has completed an investigation of two separate incidents involving South Winneshiek High School students.
One of the incidents occurred at South Winneshiek High School and the other occurred in rural Winneshiek County near Fort Atkinson. Both incidents involve assaults that occurred on a South Winneshiek student.
The Sheriff's Office says it has submitted the completed investigation to the prosecutor. The prosecutor is reviewing the case and will make a final decision on charges and juvenile referrals.
Due to a conflict of interest the Winneshiek County Attorney's Office has turned over the prosecution of this case to the Howard County Attorney's Office.
The Sheriff's Office is waiting for a final determination from the prosecutor of whether charges should be filed and, if so, what charges.
The Sheriff's Office then will file charges upon receipt of confirmation from the prosecutor's office. The Sheriff's Office will be releasing an update when this determination is complete.
