Three finalists have been selected for the position of Decorah Community School District Superintendent.
The three were chosen after the Decorah School Board and the search consultant conducted seven video interviews on Monday night. All three will now be invited to formal interviews next Monday at Luther College.
The three are Cedar Rapids Prairie High School Principal Erik Anderson; Urbandale School District Associate Superintendent Mark Lane; and Des Moines Public Schools former Central Campus Director Aiddy Phomvisay.
Anderson was named Prairie High Principal in 2013. He has experience with leading a bond referendum and supervising building projects. He has also helped create the Iowa BIG program, implemented Professional Learning Communities, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Standards-Based Grading.
Lane has served in his present position in Urbandale for seven years. He has led multiple school district initiatives, including Professional Learning Communities, Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports, Teacher Leadership and Compensation and strategic planning. He also coordinated efforts that lead to the passage of a bond referendum.
Phomvisay has served as Marshalltown High School Principal, West Des Moines High School Associate Principal and was named School Administrators of Iowa's Secondary Principal of the Year in 2014. He has experience building community partnerships, expanding career readiness and STEM programs and being a champion for equity.
A new Decorah School Superintendent is expected to be announced by Friday, February 1st. The new Decorah School Superintendent's contract will officially begin on July 1st, although it is expected the person named will work with retiring Superintendent Mike Haluska over the five month period before July 1st.
