The Decorah Planning & Zoning Commission will have a new member the next time it meets.
Bruening Rock Products/Skyline Construction staffer Ryan Delaney will serve on the commission after Decorah City council members unanimously approved his appointment Tuesday night. Delaney will replace P & Z Commission Chair Brian Cook, who has served several terms on the commission.
Also approved by city council members Tuesday night was the reappointment of Planning & Zoning Commission member Joel Zook. His nomination was opposed by city council member Randy Schissel, who said the seat should be held by someone who was "more business friendly" and would work with potential new businesses, rather than oppose them. Schissel also complained about Zook's work with the Decorah Power organization, saying it "opposed Alliant Energy."
Mayor Lorraine Borowski, who nominated Zook for another term, praised him for the amount of time he has devoted to the Planning & Zoning Commission. Zook's nomination was approved, 5-1, with Schissel voting against and Zook's wife, city council member Johanna Bergan, abstaining.
