Sheriff's Office warns of door to door insurance scam

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office is warning area residents than a man has been reported going door to door at night inquiring about residents' insurance needs and previous claims.

The Sheriff's Office describes the man as wearing a snowmobile jacket, shiny dress shoes or cowboy boots and driving a car with a loud muffler.

Deputies are reminding the public to ask for ID and not give out any personal information.
