City of Decorah still struggling to find women willing to serve on boards and commissions

Decorah Mayor Lorraine Borowski recently held off on making recommendations of people to serve on several city boards and commissions, hoping that her public plea would lead to having women apply to serve.
Unfortunately, Borowski says, no women applied for the openings. She has now instead nominated several men to fill the openings.
City council member Johanna Bergan--the only woman serving on the city council--calls the lack of response "disappointing." State rules encourage "gender equity" on boards and commissions, but so far, the City of Decorah has been struggling to meet that standard, due to lack of response.
Anyone willing to serve on a city board or commission should contact the City Clerk's Office at City Hall for more details.
