3.13 Percent Increase in Winneshiek County Property Valuations

Taxable property valuations in Winneshiek County—the figures used by all local governments in setting their tax levies—are increasing by three percent for the 2019/2020 fiscal year.

County Auditor Ben Steines reports that the total taxable valuation for both rural and urban properties in Winneshiek County has been set at $1,342,322,581 for 2019-2020.  Last year's countywide total was $1,301,594,304.  Rural properties in Winneshiek County have a valuation of $871,507,767, while urban properties have a valuation of $470,814,794.

The City of Decorah will have a taxable valuation of $371 million, while the Decorah School District will have taxable valuations of $656,819,180.

The 2019-2020 figures represent a 3.13 percent increase from this fiscal year.  Last year total valuation increased 4.05 percent.

Winneshiek County, the City of Decorah and all other local governments are beginning their budgeting processes for 2019-2020 and use the valuation figures as a basis for figuring out what figure they should choose as their property tax mill rate.
