On Wednesday night the Interim Decorah Community School Board approved the purchase of the Apple Computer Refresh for staff and students. This continues the district commitment to individual student computers and updates teaching resources. Computers tend to last about 3-4 years. The replacement costs will be about $1.7 million, and is part of the scheduled budgeting process.
Part of that cost will be recouped by the second board action. They contracted with Diamond Assets for buyback and recycling of the old computers.
By acting now, the district can benefit from a 1.99 percent interest rate, rather than waiting until after the first of the year when rates will increase to 2.99 percent. The new devices are expected about March 1.
