Donlon Pharmacy has worked with the Iowa Department of Public Health and has secured a grant to provide free HIV testing for Winneshiek County.
Donlon Pharmacy owner and pharmacist Matthew Maker explained to decorahnews.com the test requires a simple blood sample. "We offer three quick tests at Donlon's, we test for the flu, HIV, or strep throat. A patient can walk in and ask to speak with a nurse or pharmacist. When they are back in the patient care room, they can ask for the HIV test in private," explained Maker. After the blood test is obtained, the patient will receive the results.
Donlon Pharmacy has been working with the Iowa Department of Public Health which says too many people are living with HIV and are unaware of their infection. Donlon's has been in contact with the Iowa Department of Public Health to see what they can do to provide full service access.
Donlon's has installed a dispenser with free condoms near the patient care rooms.
Anyone wanting a HIV test can walk in to Donlon's Pharmacy and receive the test the same day.
