Fire strikes the Nordic Express

The Decorah Fire Department was called to a fire at Nordic Express convenience store on Montgomery Street shortly after 12:15 Monday morning.

Heavy smoke was venting from the structure when firefighters arrived. Firefighters opened the roof for ventilation and made an interior attack to extinguish the fire. 

The convenience store interior sustained significant fire and water damage. Firefighters were on scene for about three hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

The Decorah Fire Department was assisted by Calmar Fire Department, Cresco Fire Department, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance, Decorah Police and Dispatch, Alliant Energy and Black Hills Energy.
