(Lonnie asks: "I may have more venison from deer (does) than I can use. I have heard that it can be donated to the Food Pantry. Besides being okayed by the DNR as being free from Chronic Wasting Disease, how else would it have to be prepared? I would not be able to pay to have it butchered and packaged."):
Mr. Answer Person says: "You would have to go to a meat locker that participates in the DNR program. That is the Elma Locker and Grocery in Howard County. Jet's Meat Processing in Waukon had been in the program, but dropped out last year.
It's a good idea to call the Elma Locker and Grocery at (641) 393-2287 before going there--to make sure they have space to take a carcass."
