The trial of 17-year-old Jacob Seelinger of Decorah—one of two people accused of first degree murder and causing willful injury in connection with the August 31st death of 46-year-old Dave Hansen of Decorah—has again been postponed. Hansen was the victim July 12th of what police officers described as a "brutal" beating at his home in Freeport. Seelinger and another Decorah resident, Dalton Adam, were taken into custody in July and charged with attempted murder--charges which were changed to first degree murder after Hansen died.
A trial in Seelinger's case had been scheduled for Wednesday, but Judge Richard Stochl has approved a defense motion for a delay. A pre-trial conference in the case is now set for February 11th, with a trial scheduled to begin February 20th.
Seelinger is still in custody in the Winneshiek County Jail with bond set at one million dollars cash.
