An off-duty Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputy spotted a rural Decorah man driving down Highway 52 Friday night around 7:00 and contacted Decorah Police to stop the driver, since the deputy knew the driver was wanted on a warrant for a probation violation.
The driver, 36-year-old Andrew Quinn, stopped on Highway 52 near Chattahoochee Park, but then, as the officer prepared to approach Quinn's vehicle, Quinn fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed, continuing south at speeds of over 90 mph. At the junction of Highway 9 and Highway 52, Quinn struck the squad car of an on-duty Sheriff's Deputy who had arrived at the scene.
In another attempt to continue to flee, Quinn backed up and struck a second deputy's patrol vehicle that had pulled in behind him in an attempt to box him in. Quinn was then arrested without further incident.
The first deputy's patrol vehicle sustained significant damage. Nobody was injured during the collisions. The Iowa State Patrol handled the accident investigations.
Quinn was charged with Aggravated Eluding and Aggravated Driving While Barred, and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail. Magistrate Barry Mueller released Quinn on a signature bond on those charges, but when Quinn was released, he was re-booked into jail to begin serving his time on the original warrant for a probation violation.
Quinn is now in custody in the Winneshiek county Jail.
