Three Decorah Middle School Mock Trial teams have brought home a trophy and three outstanding performance medals from the State Mock Trial competition.
The 8th grade team "Binder Blinders" finished sixth out of 32 teams and earned a trophy. After winning their first two rounds, in round three the DMS team lost by a few points to eventual state champion Marion Middle School.
The 8th grade team "Legal Lynxes" decisively won two of three rounds, losing to eventual semi-finalist Merrill Middle School.
The 7th grade team "Spray Down the Law" won one of their three matches, facing stiff competition and garnering numerous nominations for outstanding performances.
Three Decorah 8th graders were honored with medals: Ethan Stravers for outstanding attorney and Sophia Gallentine and Mya Redenius for outstanding witness. To earn this award, a student must be nominated by both judges as their top choice in a single round.
Nominated as outstanding attorney were 8th graders Rebecca Anderson, Leslie Campbell, Sophia Christman, Kaeley Downing, Ella Grouws, Jake Magner, Michael Njus, Thea Schissel, Paige Werner; and 7th graders Luke Arendt, Libby Phillips, Maggie Norris, and Brynn Storhoff.
Nominated as outstanding witness were 8th graders Rebecca Anderson, Ella Grouws, Grace Hoyland, Jake Magner, Bekah Pedlar; and 7th graders Jorja Folkedahl, Kathryn Kelly, Libby Phillips, and Lexy Walker.
