When members of FFA and Community Club learned every dollar donated to the Decorah Community Food Pantry equals the buying power of up to ten dollars, they decided to approach their annual "food drive" differently. Using a friendly competition through homerooms, the students and staff donated cash instead of canned goods. As a result, a record total of $1,500 was collected to give to the food pantry.
FFA committee chair Daniel Schwartzhoff said, "It seemed like when we were collecting, every homeroom had something to give, whether it be a little or a lot. We really enjoyed working with Community Club, and when both organizations came together, we put together something really great."
"The students were very generous this year, taking the message of 'Neighbors Helping Neighbors' to heart," said Community Club advisor Liz Fox, adding "We continue to be impressed with the giving nature of our students and staff."
