Decorah retailers anticipate a busy holiday shopping season

Decorah retailers are gearing up for another busy holiday shopping season. Many retailers are offering in-store specials, holiday festivities and more as part of the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Open House Weekend beginning Thursday and running through Sunday.

Local business owner Stephanie Henning says she loves the way Decorah businesses go the extra mile to encourage shopping locally. "Perks like free gift wrapping and personalized service really make a big difference during this busy season," says Henning.

Cozy loungewear and luxury spa products are some of the top sellers so far this season at Modish. Stocking stuffers like accessories and thowback rollerball lip gloss are big hits too, along with sweaters, scarves and holiday dresses for all of the upcoming parties and concerts.

Right next door at Henning's new men's store, Iver & Jack, recycled and upcycled products are all the rage -- everything from apparel to candles. Henning says beard balms, oils and other men's grooming products made with hops are popular stocking stuffers this year, too.

Broker Leather owner Brianne Huiskamp says her leather wallets and coin purses are sure to be top sellers, along with leather air fresheners and jewelry.

If you have a curious kid on your Christmas list, The Cardboard Robot has you covered. Owner Eric Sovern expects the Comic Book Kit and Remote Control Machines Kit to be big sellers this holiday season. Sovern says, "The best thing about being a small business owner in Decorah is the way businesses work together to help each other."

At LuLu and BB's Pet Market, you can find everything you need for the furry friends on your shopping list. Doggie sweaters are trending as temperatures drop, and chew toys and treats are sure to be popular stocking stuffers for even the hardest to shop for family pet.

The Countdown to Christmas promotion kicks off today in Decorah. Every $25 spent at participating merchants gains an entry for a gift basket valued at over $800. Drawings for the baskets will be held December 7th, 14th, 21st, and 26th.
