Decorah is represented well at Opus Honor Choir Festival

25 Decorah Middle School students accepted into Opus Honors Choir

33 Decorah students participated in the recent Opus Honor Choir Festival at Iowa State University--the second highest number of students the Decorah community has ever had involved in the event.

25 Decorah Middle School students were selected on the basis of recordings submitted by Decorah Middle School music teacher Dean Beckman--the highest number of students accepted into the honor choirs by one teacher in the state of Iowa in 2018.  The students selected were 5th grader Mikayla Hiner; 6th graders Elizabeth Bjork, Elsa Johnson, Caleb Krieg, Ben Robison, Kamryn Steines, Gwenyth Thompson, Ezra Vorvick, and Amelia Wadsworth; 7th graders Bethany Hanson, Gabriel Hiner, Sydney Kipp, Libby Phillips, and Naomi Simon; and 8th graders Ashley Bjork, Casey Brickley, Ella Grouws, Sally Laybourn, Ada Lovelace, Maxwell Maitland, Morgan Moen, Daniel Skrade, Hope Stahl, Gareth Sweet, and Rorie Wiedow.


Seven  Decorah High School students and one alternate were selected by recordings submitted by DHS music teacher Jason Rausch. They were 9th graders Drew Chamberlain, Landan Folkedahl, Cole Huebner (alternate), Nolan Jacobsen, Mikiah Krieg, Dylan Muhlbauer, Thomas Ostlie, and Grace Robison.

In addition, five students were selected as solo finalists for the final concert.  Those students were 9th graders Drew Chamberlain, Nolan Jacobsen, Dylan Muhlbauer, and Thomas Ostlie.  7th grader Gabriel Hiner also was selected as a solo finalist, then was selected as a performing soloist for the final concert.
