Recounts have been requested in two out of the three counties which make up Iowa House District 55.
The Iowa Secretary of State's Office says recounts have been requested in Clayton and Winneshiek Counties only. No recount has been requested in Fayette County. Iowa House District 55 comprises parts of all three counties.
Democratic Party candidate Kayla Koether requested the recount, the Secretary of State's Office says. Koether is trailing Republican Michael Bergan by seven votes out of almost 14,000 votes cast on November 6th.
Iowa law says recounts are handled by three-person boards, consisting of one person selected by the candidate requesting the recount, one person selected by the apparent winning candidate and a third person chosen jointly by the other two members.
The following people will serve on the Winneshiek County recount board:
--James Beeghly (appointed by Kayla Koether)
--James Burns (appointed by Michael Bergan)
--Craig Cutting (appointed by mutual agreement of the other two members.)
The recount will start at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27th, in the GIS office in the Courthouse (next door to the Auditor's office). It will be open to the public. The Auditor's Office expects the recount to take approximately two days.
