Kayla Koether asks for a recount of votes

Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines says he has received an official request from State Assembly candidate Kayla Koether for a recount of votes cast in the November 6th election.

The request means both Koether, the Democratic Party candidate, and Michael Bergan, the Republican Party candidate, will be contacted. Each of the two candidates will appoint a member to a recount board. Those two recount board members will meet on Monday or Tuesday to pick a mutually agreed upon third member of the recount board.

Those three members will meet to determine a procedure and a day and time to conduct the recount. Steines says with the Thanksgiving holiday starting on Thursday, "I would assume the actual recount won't take place until the last week of November or into the first part of December."
