VFW Post #1977 and American Legion Post #163, posting of the colors
Decorah High School honored area veterans on Friday by holding their 18th annual breakfast and Veteran's Day observance.
Breakfast was served In the cafeteria, with a display of photographs of loved ones of students and faculty members who have served in the military. Then six Quilts of Valor recipients were given quilts made by local quilters.
The program began with the posting of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by DHS student Sarina Guzman. The Wind Ensemble and the Concert Choir performed several patriotic numbers. Decorah HS American History students showed a movie they had created which explained Armistice Day, this year being the 100th anniversary of that event.
US Air Force veteran Lieutenant Colonel Craig Neuzil, the main speaker, spoke on "Why you should thank a veteran." During the "Armed Forces Salute," each branch of service was recognized and members were asked to stand.
Landon Miller and Blake Henriquez played "Taps" towards the end of the program, members of the VFW color guard retired the color, and the Decorah HS wind ensemble performed "Liberty Bell."
