Polls close in Winneshiek County

Heavy turnout throughout the day was reported Tuesday. That could slow down the vote counting Tuesday night. Here's what we're expecting:
--The county supervisor race between Republican incumbent Floyd Ashbacher and Democratic challenger Mellisa O'Rourke will have ballots from just two out of the 11 voting precincts, so that race should have results first.
--When all 11 precincts have reported, the race for County Recorder between newcomers Republican Connie Askelson-Kuennen and independent Jayne Schultz will be determined.
--The race in Iowa House District 55 between Republican incumbent Michael Bergan and Democratic challenger Kayla Koether will have vote returns from Winneshiek, Clayton and Fayette counties, so those results could be later than the results from just Winneshiek County.
--Finally, it will be interesting to see how high voters turnout has been in 2018. By comparison, 8,363 ballots were cast in 2014 out of 13,225 registered voters, while 11,511 ballots were cast in 2016 out of 14,065 registered voters.
